SWU Draft 12/2/25

Welcome back, last night I had the honor of attending Red Panda Games weekly Star Wars Unlimited weekly play event! It was a draft event with the newest set Shadows of Power. My Malifuax buddy Wookie has been telling us about this card game for over a year. I wish I would have listened sooner! This game is an absolute blast to play. I had played only 2 games the weekend before. Still, I knew I was ready to win the whole event. I watched all the Star Wars movies with my Daughter over the weekend. I hoped this would prepare me for the Star Wars event I was planning on going to. I read the rules a few hours before I had to go, and looked over a handful of cards. There was no way I was going to lose this event. The power of the force was clearly on my side!

I was welcomed with open arms and everyone was excited to have some fresh blood in the room. They took the time to explain how things worked and we started drafting. I picked up Deedra as I thought her two damage or draw one would be really strong. Then I started picking cards at first I was worried because I didn’t see any red cards coming my way. I really thought I was going to have to play with C-3PO. Everyone implied that he was not good at all. Luckily, I had a bunch of red cards come my way. My opponents were fortunate because I had no idea what most of the cards meant. So I stuck to my BREAD tactics and tried to figure out what a Bomb is in this game. After much picking, I came up with this Yellow Red Officials deck. It is probably the worst thing you have ever seen. However, the force is so strong with this one!

Round one I played against Jack, and Jack is the store champion. Jack played a bunch of cards. He showed me several things. Meanwhile, I figured out what to resource and how to play on curve. He had great patience with me, but there was actually no hope for this Scrub. I think I pinged his base for 3 damage and then he took the win. I guess the force was not on my side this time!

Round two, I got the Bye, so I got a win! The match was relaxing. I shuffled my deck and observed others play. They tried to figure it out. I meditated like Qui-gon before he fought Darth Maul. I thought the force and I would make short work of my next opponent.

Round Three, feeling super fresh after riding the bench for a play, I met Brian. Brian was running a Green/Yellow Officers Hero Deck. We start playing and I have a better early game. The alternating activation made the trade game confusing. I need to play more to understand the game better. He kept throwing down units and pumping them with pump cards and abilities. I learned even more from this game than my earlier two matches, but I was wanting more.

So at the end of it all, I didn’t get a win. However, I know I was the biggest winner of the event. Almost everyone gave me their leftover cards to help my collection. They were also telling me where to meet up with them next. This community is amazing. I am sold on them. There was even a lot of buzz about Star Wars Legion. Perhaps we can arrange a lets play day with this store and get some legion going! Until then we will just keep playing Unlimited and start bringing you more content on it. Thanks for reading and stay classy wargamers!
