It’s been a wild ride for the past few months and as usual there has been a massive amount of turbulence, I’m just getting more involved with the business side of work and managing a hectic schedule. Managing all the different systems I have been building and painting, along with all the painting of models for systems I am playing in. We are doing a Necromunda campaign, I am playing in a Blood bowl league, spending Sundays with my best friends playing games. On top of that I am having the best time raising my 4 year old daughter, the traveling really made me enjoy every minute I get to hang out with her.
That is a lot going on and I have no issue keeping it all tracked, I have gotten better over the years at writing these things down. Yet, I am finding that I am not the best at communicating what I need and what I can do to help. This is where I start developing my doom loop, because when I hang out and try to get people to come and hang out too, when no one shows up, I go back to the drawing board. Sometimes I don’t need to do that and just keep doing what we were doing and let the meta establish.
If people want to play games they will show up, and usually they will be ready. I noticed this with Ryan and his every other week Halo Flashpoint events, he has everything needed to play, he just needs people to play with. I have been playing all kinds of card games at different places during the week, and just being honest that you are new and looking to learn will make you the coolest guy in the room. People are just looking for new people to play against, and sometimes these people are looking for a new game to play. With me I like to talk about building decks and seeing what the best decks are so when I feel like working on the deck I have some deeper understanding.
If you think I have a lot going on and that’s why I’m burnt out, that’s not even close to the reason. I am burnt out with a lot of people who don’t put any effort into things, but will constantly complain about the way things are. With work it’s the thought that what I have to offer is different, but it can make things better, or it can make things worse. If we don’t try something else, we are still going to fail, so the mentality of why change sinks in more. Other times I feel that people only see what they want to see, and shut out those around them who don’t agree with their point of view. When you open yourself to other people’s ideas and opinions it doesn’t mean you are changing who you are, it just means that you are opening the avenue to teamwork. It’s important to keep your mind open to new ideas, if you get stuck in the glory days of the past, you will never see the glory days of the present.
This isn’t to say that there is anyone who has done me wrong or I am out for vengeance with, it just means I’m not as open to spending my time at those locations. I love traveling and meeting new people, and I feel I have more friends outside where I live, I just would like to see them come up here and see what I have to work with in my community. So that is what this post ultimately aims to do, a call to arms. If there is someone you have played a game with and you enjoyed it, seek that person out and plan to play an event with them! The more communities we go to play in, the larger events we can have if we all work together.
That’s enough for now, but I will seriously try and post more, I really want to make this thing work. I have changed a few things on the site and am working to group everything and a how to make a necromunda gang article in the works.
